15th November 2002 - Still, the waiting continues

My sincere apologies to those of you who have been waiting on a Retro Edition Patch for Version 2.0 of Kazaa Lite. Trust me, it will come soon! I'm still dead busy job hunting so KRE is taking its sweet time.

Many of you will probably have noticed that there Kazaa Lite V2.0.2 is now out. I will be looking into doing a Retro Edition for this, however, as many people are choosing not to upgrade just yet (as sticking with V2.0 means you can still use participation hacks, etc) I will be completing the patch for V2.0 first.

On another note: If anyone requires (or knows someone who requires) the services of an excellent Web Designer/Developer, please drop me a line at webmaster@indigo-onion.co.uk. I'm currently looking for full- or part-time or contract work. Thanks!

9th October 2002 - Sorry, sorry, sorry

Yes, Kazaa Lite V2 has now been out for ages and I've been promising a Retro Patch for it but... Nothing yet.

The problem is, I've been really busy lately. While trying to find a job (if anyone wants a graduate web developer in the London area, let me know and have a look here) I've been trying to get some contract database work done and, at the same time, juggling a social life and unfortunately, Kazaa Lite Retro Edition V2 has had to be put on the back burner. But I am back on the case!

As you can see, I've given the site a bit of a re-vamp, with a multiple-page layout and a Kazaa-style menu bar to navigate it! (Yes, I can hear you all cheering, really) By the way, I'm aware that the menubar looks a bit iffy in Mozilla/Netscape 6. It looks fine in IE6 but I'm sure that's because, technically, IE6 does it wrong. Go figure. When I've got more time I'll fix it :o)

I genuinely hope to be releasing a Retro Patch for Kazaa Lite V2 within the next week or so. Don't forget to sign up to the mailing list so you can know as soon as the patch is released.

28th September 2002 - What to do?!?

Right, I've now had a good look at Kazaa Lite V2.0. It seems to have borrowed a lot of ideas from my retro patches, which is fine, but it does leave me with fewer things to fix with a Retro Edition Patch. I see that the skinning features are relatively powerful, so I will be looking in to making skin or two, and maybe bundling one in with Retro Edition. We shall see...

26th September 2002 - Kazaa Lite V2.0

I've just downloaded the new version of Kazaa Lite (and also the Kazaa version with Spyware, so I can make comparisons) and I'll be looking into things I can do to it to make a Retro Patch. I hope to do this fairly soon, but I can't promise a particular date. If anyone has any suggestions (that doesn't involve changing the way Kazaa Lite works!) then please drop me a line!

I see that that V2 now supports skins of some sort. If this turns out to be decent skinning and I get round to making some, I may consider adding a few skins to this site to go alongside any patches I make.

Finally! A new version of Retro Edition after months without one!
If you've downloaded Kazaa Lite V1.7.2, you can now use my patch to turn it into Kazaa Lite Retro Edition V1.7.2!

Blatant Back Covering

I'm not a hacker. I'm not a sad virus maker. My patch does what it says it does, nothing else. It won't open your hard drive up to the entire world. I make these changes to KaZaA Lite because I prefer it this way. I make the changes available to you because I think you'll like them.

Having said that, I have to point out that the KaZaA Lite Retro Edition Patch is provided as is, without warranty, implied or otherwise. Basically, in the highly unlikely event that Retro Edition makes your CPU explode or sleeps with your Mother or something along those "bad" lines, please don't hold me responsible. Tell me, by all means, so I can appologise and remove the patch from the site, but don't sue me. Thanking you.
